New things

Gloves. They're surprisingly frustrating to make. It is also difficult to find cheap patterns for.

So I decided to improvise just for the hell of it.

I elected to make individual finger sleeves from the felt scraps I had lying around.

They look ridiculous because I was using scraps and being somewhat lazy in the design.

Perhaps because there wasn't any.

Painfully slow process but I believe it was finished within a night.

The range of movement wasn't terrible.

Though it clearly could use improvement in places.

Will these be a mockup of sorts? Perhaps. I doubt these will make for the gloves I had in mind. To the fur suit making sites... AWAY!

Cats!

But first...

AWKWARD PLUSHIE MAKING TIME

So to jumpstart this silly project I elected to recreate the adorable mouse plushie she holds in her back paw in another photo of her figurine.

This is the result of cutting off the trunk of an elephant pattern for a 10 in. tall plushie. Baaah... TOO BIG. And awkward...

So I moved the ears and fiddled with the nose/mouth a bit more.

In case you're wondering, it's some fabric remnant of green fleece. I got half a yard for 2.50 because it was Memorial weekend sale madness at Joann's.

I came out with a more mouse looking creature but not before making a ridiculous mouse with what appeared to be a huge nutsack. As it should.

It's SO ADORABLE! But still not the right one.

The Fastest

Cheetah... DC Ame Comi rendition...

New project for Fall 2012
....

I started working on making some basic cat ears to sew into the wig.

I came out with 3 different shapes and sizes (the first two are the final pair I settled on)

I played around with making a pattern based off of existing clothes to make some semblance of her ridiculous leotard thing. I gave up on that for the time being. I may elect to use a real leotard and just cover it with some fabric that better matches what I'm looking for.

So in the meantime I looked at her gloves.

Traced out my hand but gasp... I almost cut off a good chunk of my wrist... Luckily I drew it out better on some leftover felt.

It's so chunky and fat and I loves it.

I figured to add warmth and fluffy to the gloves I would wrap them in some quilting batting I had from making Akasha and Aisha's hair pieces.

To be continued...

Boyfriend, Bling, and Bra

So the necklace has the round blocks added on.

It's just the thicker/est foamies board from Joanns in black, repainted in gold acrylic paint, and stabbed through the center using a pin and some of the wire holding the other pieces together.

Then I worked on the bra/chestpiece.

Boyfriend being awesome and helping me cut out the pieces.

Glued some interfacing fabric to the back of the foam in order to give it some support as I did with all of the other major foam pieces. The base coat was 3-D fabric paint in gold. It was really shiny and pretty.

Then I sort of freehanded the purple swirls onto the foam cutout. I know I should have patterned it out first. (Will need to update these)

Then cut out more foam bits to make the top section of the backless bra.

Finally added on some of the scraps to add dimension. Which of course failed horribly. I ended up scrapping it for hotglue that was then painted over with the 3-D fabric paint in a lilac-y purple color.

Belt and Hair Update

So as I mentioned before I had some more work to be done on the belt.

I really just needed to add in the extra pearl veneers in between the other foam panels.

This was my attempt to create rolled up, sewn, and spray painted batting tubes for the crazy beehive cone thing on the top of Akasha's head. It may very well have been holding the crown to her head.

Spray paint had postponed any further work as the paint needed quite a bit of time to dry. Even after the suggested 24 hours it wasn't ready to be worked with... D:

Here you can see my horrid closet, Akasha's hair tubes, and Aisha's updated hair tubes.

I was actually trying to update a bit of Aisha when I had the downtime to do so.

The tubes were caulked in varying places, probably about a finger's length apart from one another. Then half inch chunks of kanekalon fiber was gently smudged into the caulk. I had managed to use a little less than a whole tube of caulk making these.

Re-designed

Wow was I pleased with the second attempt/result.

After hot gluing all of the metal bits in place and covering the wrapped edges so they wouldn't tear me to bits, I followed up with the coins and some cut up mardi gras beads to act as spacers between the coins.

So many coins, so little time...

Then came some darted construction/posterboard paper that came in dual tone gold on one side and silver on the other.

After cutting darts like so I taped them up.

Then prepared them for the daunting task of upholding the crown.

Even here the crown is rather impressive

Ah handy dandy hot glue gun... Where would I be without you in this project?

This felt like it took hours. It probably only took me an hour. Maybe hour and a half.

Despite my rather unexcited facade I am quite ecstatic about the progress I made.

I couldn't get the camera to cooperate. Blech
